How Are Internal Links Used Within Each Blog ArticleUpdated 6 days ago

Internal links are hyperlinks within a blog article that connect to other pages on the same store — most importantly product pages, collection pages and related articles on the Shopify blog.

Every article I publish includes at least two to three internal links placed naturally within the content where they are genuinely relevant to what the reader is learning at that point in the article.

Why internal linking matters for both SEO and sales:

For SEO — internal links tell search engines which other pages on the store are related to the article's topic. They pass authority from the blog article — which earns authority through search traffic and backlinks — to the product pages it links to, gradually improving those pages' ability to rank over time.

For sales — a buyer who arrived through a search query is reading the article because they have a specific question:

  • Internal links answer their next logical question — where is the product that solves this?
  • They arrive at the product page with context already established
  • Context-equipped buyers convert at higher rates than cold traffic arriving at a product page directly

What I avoid is forcing links that interrupt the reading experience or including more links than the content genuinely justifies. Every internal link I place is positioned where a reader who found the article useful would naturally want to go next — a helpful direction rather than a sales interruption.
