How Is a YouTube Video Topic Researched and Chosen for MeUpdated 6 days ago

The topic of a YouTube video matters more than almost any other production decision. It determines who discovers the video, why they are watching and whether they are the type of buyer likely to purchase the product.

I research topics using YouTube's own search data combined with broader keyword research before any scripting begins. The process covers four specific filters.

Search volume — is enough monthly searching happening on this topic to justify producing a video? Some topics feel relevant but have minimal actual search traffic.

Search intent — does the person searching want to learn, compare or buy? Both are valid but they produce different types of videos and attract different buyers at different stages of readiness.

Competition — can a well-produced new video outrank what currently appears for this search query?

Relevance to the product:

  • Informational topics where the product is the natural solution mentioned within the content
  • Comparison topics where the product needs to appear in the evaluation
  • Problem-focused topics where the buyer is searching for a solution the product provides

After research I recommend the best topic for the service and explain the reasoning behind it clearly. If you have a specific topic idea, I research it against these filters and give an honest assessment of whether it is worth producing now or later.
