What Is a Rage Click and What Does It Tell Me About My StoreUpdated 5 days ago
A rage click is produced when a visitor rapidly clicks the same element multiple times — because it is not responding the way they expected.
Rage clicks are one of the clearest diagnostic signals in heatmap data because they indicate a specific, identifiable moment of buyer frustration at a point where something is not working as expected.
What rage clicks most commonly indicate on Shopify stores:
Non-clickable elements that look clickable — a product image or graphic the design makes look like a button or link, but that does not do anything when clicked. Visitors click expecting a response, get none and click repeatedly.
Broken buttons or non-functioning links — an add to cart button that does not work, a navigation link leading to an error or a checkout button that does not advance the buyer.
Slow-loading interactive elements:
- A button that is technically clickable but takes several seconds to respond due to page speed issues
- The visitor clicks once, sees no immediate response and clicks again and again
- Each click registers as a rage click even though the element technically functions — it is simply too slow
Resolving the elements generating the most rage clicks is one of the highest-priority fixes in the audit — each one represents a specific point where the buyer's intent to purchase is being stopped by a technical or design problem.
