What Is a Welcome Flow and What Does It Do for My SalesUpdated 5 days ago
A welcome flow is the first automated email sequence a new subscriber receives after joining the list. It is the brand's opportunity to make the right first impression and move the subscriber toward their first purchase — automatically.
Most brands send a single generic "thanks for subscribing" email that earns nothing from what is statistically the highest open-rate email the brand will ever send.
A well-built welcome flow across three to five emails:
Email one — sends immediately after joining. Delivers whatever was promised during signup, reintroduces the brand and sets expectations.
Email two — sent one to two days later:
- Tells the brand story — why the brand exists, what makes it different
- This is the trust-building email that turns a curious subscriber into someone invested in the brand
Emails three and four — introduce the best-selling products with social proof, address common objections and give a clear direct invitation to visit the store.
The welcome flow ends with a subscriber who understands the brand, has seen the best products and has been given multiple pathways to purchase — with no manual effort from the founder at any step.
