What Is a Hero Image and Where on My Store Is It UsedUpdated 8 days ago
The hero image is the primary product image — the first one a buyer sees when they land on the product page. It is also the image that represents the product in search engine results, in paid ad previews, when the product link is shared on social media and in any email that links directly to the product page.
Because it appears across so many touchpoints, the hero image carries more weight than any other single image in the entire store. A weak hero image undermines every channel that sends buyers to that product page.
Here is what makes a hero image work:
- The product should occupy at least 80 percent of the frame against a clean background — the buyer should understand in one glance exactly what they are looking at
- The color, tone and presentation should feel consistent with every other product on the store
- The dimensions should match what Shopify displays correctly without cropping
- The resolution should be sufficient for the zoom function buyers use to inspect quality before purchasing
I create a dedicated hero image for each product as part of this service — built to perform across the product page, ad creatives, search result previews and social sharing simultaneously without needing a different version for each.
