What Is Job Title Targeting and How Precise Can It GetUpdated 5 days ago
Job title targeting on LinkedIn is the most precise audience segmentation available in any advertising platform — and it is what makes LinkedIn uniquely powerful for reaching buyers defined by their professional role.
Here is how precise it gets and how I use it during setup:
Direct job title targeting — the campaign shows ads to people whose LinkedIn title matches specific criteria. "Head of Marketing," "Founder" or "Operations Manager" can each be a defined target, including title variations LinkedIn identifies as equivalent.
Seniority layered over title — title targeting combines with seniority for additional precision:
- Decision-maker products target "Manager" and above across a specific industry
- Products for early-career professionals target "Entry Level" and "Associate" within the right field
Industry and function combinations — targeting "Marketing Manager" globally produces a large but varied audience. Targeting "Marketing Manager" in "Consumer Goods" within the "Marketing" function produces a significantly more commercially relevant pool.
Company size as a fourth layer:
- Reaching buyers at companies of the exact size most likely to need the product
- A product for founders targets companies of 1 to 10 employees specifically
The combination of title, seniority, industry, function and company size creates audience precision that does not exist on any other advertising platform available today.
