What Is the Conversions API and How Does It Improve My AdsUpdated 5 days ago
The Conversions API is a server-side tracking connection that sends conversion data from the store's server directly to Meta — independent of the browser, ad blockers and the data loss the Pixel alone now experiences due to browser privacy restrictions.
After iOS 14 introduced tracking restrictions and browsers began blocking third-party tracking, Pixel data alone started missing a meaningful percentage of real purchases. Campaigns optimizing on incomplete data spend more for the same result.
The Conversions API fixes this by sending purchase data directly from the server:
- When a purchase completes on Shopify, the server sends the event to Meta independently of the buyer's browser settings
- Meta deduplicates the browser event and the server event so purchases are not counted twice
The practical impact:
More real purchases get attributed — the campaign data is more complete, the algorithm learns from more accurate information and delivery improves toward buyers most likely to convert.
Retargeting accuracy improves — the algorithm correctly identifies who purchased and removes them from acquisition campaigns, preventing wasted spend on people who already bought.
I connect and configure the Conversions API alongside the Pixel — verifying both signal sources are active and deduplicated correctly before the service closes.
