What Is the UET Tag and Why Is It Installed on My StoreUpdated 2 months ago
The UET (Universal Event Tracking) tag is Microsoft Advertising's conversion tracking code — installed on the Shopify store to record what visitors do after clicking a Bing ad and send that data back to the ad account.
Without the UET tag, Bing campaigns run blind. Clicks arrive at the store but Microsoft Advertising receives no information about what happens after — no cart data, no purchase data and no foundation for the algorithm to optimize toward buyers who actually convert.
Here is what the UET tag captures once installed:
Page view events — every page a visitor views after clicking a Bing ad is recorded, building the site visitor audience used for Bing remarketing campaigns.
Add to cart events — visitors who add a product to cart are identified and can be retargeted with a dedicated campaign specifically aimed at completing that purchase.
Purchase events:
- Every completed order is recorded as a conversion attributed to the specific campaign and keyword that drove it
- This is the primary conversion goal the Bing campaigns optimize toward
- Without this event firing correctly, the algorithm has no signal to improve delivery toward real buyers
I install the UET tag on the Shopify store and configure all three standard ecommerce events as part of the service — verifying each fires correctly before any campaign goes live.
