What Meta Title and Description Are Written per ProductUpdated 8 days ago
Every product on your Shopify store has a meta title and meta description — the text that appears in search engine results when someone finds your product through Google or any other search engine.
Most stores ship with auto-generated meta titles that default to the product name and store name. This is a missed opportunity. A well-written meta title targets the specific search query a buyer uses when looking for a product like yours and gives them a clear reason to click through to the page.
Here is what I write for each product:
- A meta title that includes the primary buyer search term, stays within the search engine character limit and communicates a specific reason to click
- A meta description that expands on the title — addressing buyer intent, stating a key benefit and setting clear expectations about what the page delivers
Meta descriptions do not directly improve search rankings. What they improve is click-through rate — the percentage of people who see the listing and actually click it. A higher click-through rate from the same search position means more traffic without any improvement in ranking required.
Both get written and implemented directly in Shopify for every product covered in the optimization service before handover.
