What Platforms Is Each Carousel Sized and Formatted ForUpdated 6 days ago
Carousels are available on several major platforms but behave differently on each — and the dimensions and format need to account for those differences before uploading.
Instagram is the primary platform. The standard format is square 1080×1080 pixels per slide. Portrait format at 1080×1350 is also available where taking up more screen space on mobile benefits the specific content type — educational carousels in particular read better in portrait because the larger format gives each slide more breathing room.
LinkedIn carousels work through a document upload rather than a native swipe format — viewers swipe through pages of a PDF:
- Each slide is formatted as a full-page PDF layout
- The cover page is especially important because LinkedIn shows a document preview before the viewer opens it
- Text sizing and layout need to account for how LinkedIn renders document pages on both mobile and desktop
Facebook supports the same 1080×1080 square format as Instagram and carousels can be cross-posted between both platforms without reformatting.
Pinterest does not support the native swipe carousel — individual slides from the carousel get delivered as standalone images that can be pinned separately with links back to the full carousel on the primary platform.
Every delivery is clearly labeled by platform with a brief note on how to upload each version correctly.
