What Type of Ad Creative Performs Best on X for My StoreUpdated 5 days ago

The ad creative format that performs consistently on X is different from what works on other platforms — and using the wrong format is the most common reason D2C brands get poor results from X Ads even with correct targeting.

X is a text-first platform. The copy is the creative.

What specifically works for ad creative on X:

Short, opinionated opening lines — the first line determines whether the viewer reads further. "Most coffee equipment is overpriced and underbuilt. Ours is not." performs better than "Introducing our new collection." The direct statement earns the next read.

Single message per ad — X ads that try to communicate multiple things get the same result as a tweet that is too long:

  • One ad, one point, one action
  • The entire creative built around earning one specific response from the viewer

Real-feeling images over designed graphics — an authentic product photo in a real setting outperforms a branded graphic with logos and design elements. The goal is for the image to look like something a real person posted — reducing the automatic scroll response.

Short video with captions — the first three seconds must earn attention without sound. Most X video plays muted by default.

I prepare a creative brief covering all of these principles as part of the X Ads setup service.
