When and Where Is the Referral Invite Shown to My CustomersUpdated 7 hours ago
Timing and placement of the referral invite is one of the most important decisions in the program setup — showing it too early produces low conversion, and showing it too late means many buyers never see it.
Here is when I configure the invite to appear and why each placement is chosen:
Order confirmation page — the buyer just completed their purchase and is at peak satisfaction. This is when they are most likely to share — before the product has even arrived. The highest-converting single placement for the referral invite.
Post-purchase email — the post-purchase flow includes the referral invite as a secondary element after the order content. Reaches buyers who missed it on the confirmation page.
Loyalty program dashboard:
- The referral link is permanently visible in the buyer's account
- Buyers who check their points balance see the referral program every time they log in
- Creates ongoing visibility without requiring a new notification
Delivery confirmation email — the final post-purchase communication includes a referral mention when the buyer's satisfaction with the product experience is at its highest point.
Every placement is post-purchase — the referral invite never appears before purchase because an unverified recommendation carries no earned credibility.
